I too met Jim while we were both at Carolina. And I too came home for his funeral.
He was everything you said and more.. ... I know this because, our relationship was purely friends....I know and love both his wife and daughter and although we would go years with out seeing each other (as I ventured from Columbia). I saw and and continue to watch his love bloom in both of them.
Jim was always there. When we said goodbye the last time, both he and I knew it was forever. I will always remember that hug.
